Victoria 2026

Key dates

Official VEC candidate nominations close at 12 noon on Friday 13 November 2026. Until the VEC publishes the final ballot draw, candidate lists here come from Wikipedia (a secondary source) and party announcements, and may change.

Dates from the VEC. Check your enrolment at vec.vic.gov.au/enrolment.

How voting works

Voting is compulsory for enrolled Victorians, and both houses use preferential voting.

• Legislative Assembly (lower house, green ballot): 88 single-member districts. Number every box in order of preference. A party or coalition needs 45 seats to govern in its own right.
• Legislative Council (upper house, white ballot): 8 regions, 5 members each (40 total). Group voting tickets have been abolished: number at least 5 boxes above the line, or at least 5 candidates below the line.
