How counting works
Counting takes time. States usually begin posting numbers soon after their polls close, but mail, provisional and overseas ballots can take days or weeks to count, so totals can change. Every number on election night is unofficial. Results become official only after each state certifies them, usually several weeks after Election Day; the date differs by state. For the latest count, use your state's official link below.
Results on this page come only from official state election offices. Races show Results pending until official numbers are posted; once they are filled in, each one is labeled Unofficial or Certified, with the time and a link to the official source. We do not use news-organization race calls.
