Equality, Racial, and Social Justice
As the first congenitally blind member of Congress and a former president of the Bay area Rapid Transit (BART) Board, I know that the ability to move – to get to work, to school, to the doctor – is a freedom our nation’s civil rights laws have long promised to protect. Last month, the Trump administration derailed that promise.

Disabled women of color experience some of the largest pay gaps in our nation- impacting their ability to care for themselves and their loved ones.
Elections, ethics & government
As the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress continue to cut vital programs and services while funding the unlawful, violent terrorization our immigrant communities, hearing stories and the impacts of the Republican agenda on the families living in our communities everyday has been invaluable. Community-based services and supports work. They are more cost-effective, produce better health and quality-of-life outcomes, and honor people with disabilities’ autonomy and self-determination. The consequences of weakening the integration mandate would be profound and impact millions of Americans’ ability to access home and community-based services that allow them to remain among their families, maintain employment, pursue education, and participate in civic life.
Families & communities
For far too long, communities – particularly Black and brown communities - have been subjected to discriminatory practices at the hands of our own government without proper accountability or acknowledgement. This current moment in history, when the Trump Administration is killing American citizens and terrorizing immigrant communities, demonstrates that the legacy of horrific violence and racial inequality towards immigrant communities by the federal government continues.
The same votes are shown for every member of Congress on the ballot, so records can be compared across states.
