“In rural communities, schools are more than classrooms, they're the heart of the community. When funding doesn't keep up with costs, small districts feel it immediately. If we're spending public dollars, we should know they strengthen local schools. Strong schools mean strong towns.” (Candidate statement)

“I was born into an Air Force family with Iowa roots. I made my final move to Iowa in 1990 and after experiencing my first Iowa snowstorm, I swore I would never spend another winter here. As often happens, God has different plans, and in the Spring of 1991 I met my wife and have been in Iowa ever since. I have 7 wonderful children, 3 daughters-in-law, and 4 beautiful grandchildren.” (Candidate statement)
“For the last 32 years, I've had the privilege of standing in front of Iowa classrooms, watching young minds grow, helping students discover their potential, and yes, sometimes struggling to get them to understand fractions or to just plain pay attention. I've taught three decades' worth of Iowa's children, many of whom now live and work in our district.” (Candidate statement)
“Since 1994 I've watched our education system drift away from common sense, away from parental authority, and away from the values that made Iowa schools the envy of the nation.” (Candidate statement)
