Energy, environment & water: “What are your memories as a child? Was it riding your bike, playing ball or staying outside until dark with your friends? Well, I remember playing outdoors, close to burning culm piles and near abandoned coal mines. See, I was raised in Throop, Pennsylvania, witnessing first-hand the wrath of coal barons and non-environmentally friendly businesses.”
(Campaign website) Education & schools: “So, it really is no surprise those early experiences weighed heavily on me when deciding to pursue a profession. I choose to become a pharmacist. And after completing my schooling, I returned to Lackawanna County to practice and to serve as a primary care provider in the community. I loved my role as healthcare practitioner, providing health and wellness guidance to those living in the valley.”
(Campaign website) Meet Sharon: “When we learned of the Marjol Battery lead contamination and an advocate was needed, I jumped in with two feet and helped a citizen’s group get the property declared a superfund site. And, when the opportunity to run for council presented itself, I embraced it. Thanks to the great people of Throop, they elected me their first women council member. Serving as President was an honor, just like fighting the expansion of the Keystone Sanitary Landfill and aiding in the fight to stop the construction of the Co-Gen Plant in the Greenridge section of Scranton.”
(Campaign website) Taxes & budget: “After getting married, my husband Larry and I moved to LaPlume, and I continued to my career as a pharmacist for the next three decades. Most recently, life was quiet until the 33% tax increase and re-assessment resurfaced. Something just wasn’t right, transparency was needed, so I ran for Recorder of Deeds. While researching for my campaign, my heart broke recognizing yet another canary in the coal mine, data centers.”
