What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “Add rising food costs from disrupted growing seasons and the health impacts of wildfire smoke drifting down from Canada, and climate change is already a hidden tax on every Vermont household's budget. However, the transition to clean energy is one of our best opportunities to save Vermonters money and keep energy dollars circulating in our own economy instead of flowing out of state to fossil fuel companies.”
“While I agree that we face a fiscal crisis in how we fund education, I think that consolidating school districts without addressing the underlying causes risks treating the symptom (underenrollment) rather than the cause, which is that Vermont is unaffordable for young families.”
“While I believe that there needs to be strong state-level oversight to ensure equity, I would not replace local budget-setting with state control. Local districts have a clearer understanding of the needs of their communities, and I support a balance in which the state sets clear standards for equity and accountability while communities retain a meaningful role in deciding how to meet local needs.”
