What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “Vermont is facing a demographic cliff: we're the second-oldest state in the country, public school attendance is declining, the population boost from the pandemic hasn't persisted. If we want to be able to have a workforce that can support our aging population and a tax base that can support our schools and other state services, we must grow our population to meet that need.”
“I support the response of the Legislature to Gov Scott's unreasonable demands around school district consolidation. I think that allowing local districts to study the effects and benefits of consolidation on their own and make their own decisions is a good approach — there may be cost savings to be found in consolidation and shared services but it should be community-led.”
“As a local voter and property tax payer, I know the pain of the current process of determining and voting on school budgets each year and wondering how much higher the property tax bill will be. I'm open to a more streamlined approach that gives the state more control, as long as it ensures equity for lower-income communities. A lot of details still need to be hashed out on this so I'll be watching that closely.”

“Rob North has been a strong voice for affordability and protecting rural Vermonters from the negative impacts of Act 181. He works hard to find common sense solutions and bring balance to Montpelier, which we desperately need. Rob has been an effective legislator, and I hope you'll join me in supporting him this fall." What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “Education transformation and property taxes. Vermont is in the middle of a generational reckoning with how we fund and organize public schools.”
“The Legislature is right that Vermont's education system needs structural reform. I support the direction of Acts 73 and 170: more regional collaboration, greater efficiency, fairer funding.”
“Local budget votes are narrower than people think which is precisely why so many Vermonters feel confused and frustrated by their tax bills. Rather than debating whether to give the state more power, we should be honest about the power it already has and use it more transparently and fairly.”
