Vermont State House Chittenden-7 District (unopposed)

Current seat holder: Shawn Sweeney (D).

Shawn J. Sweeney

Shawn J. Sweeney (Democratic) of Shelburne is an incumbent Vermont Representative representing the Chittenden-7 district in the 2025-2026 General Assembly, and works as I own a designbuild company. Served on the Planning Board. Served the Shelburne community.

What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “Building homes. Every kind of house. If we do that, we bring more people to Vermont, keep more people in Vermont, and drive down the overall affordability crisis. We desperately need people. Families of all kinds and people of all kinds from everywhere. But they can't come here if they can't afford a place to live. We have to change that. Immediately.”
“But we need to do more. I believe high school consolidation could be a long term cost saving solution throughout the state and in every county.”
“It depends on how it is set up. Local control is important, but it has also driven up the cost of education. I know we are discussing some possibilities that will be covered in the upcoming session in Montpelier.”
