“I believe that there are some really small schools that could be brought up to scale and are possibly good candidates for merged consolidations, but I also believe that it would be disastrous to move forward with this plan without community buy-in. I think the legislature did the right thing in walking back forced mergers in favor of more strategic voluntary mergers wiht community input.”

It could work if it wasn't deliberately designed to punish small rural school districts for choosing not to merge, but I'm afraid there is still a lot of mistrust around this issue, and that this type of legislation could be weaponized to force school mergers in a back-door deal.”
