What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “Getting food to those who need it and supporting those who grow it. We have many farms, farmers' markets, and community gardens in our state and we also have many people who struggle with going hungry. I work with our local food pantry and see this constantly. Crop Cash at the farmers' market is an excellent program, and we need more ideas like that to pay farmers and feed people.”
“No. We need to control the rising cost of education, but that is largely driven by the increase in the cost of health care for teachers, not by small local schools existing. We could consolidate some services like special education, but I do not support legislation that leads to closing our local schools.”
“Only if doing so would bring down property taxes. We need to fund our schools equitably across the state to ensure a good public education for every student no matter where they live or how much their family makes. I think moving away entirely from funding schools through property taxes would be a good idea. We should find a different source of funding that is fairer to all.”
