What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “The legislature needs to focus its attention on job creation and workforce development. We need to create jobs that pay a wage commiserate with the cost of living in Vermont.”
“I think that after some rough stops and starts we have reached a space where is is possible to move forward. The state is working with communities to develop a path to right sizing our educational structure to reflect our present reality.”
“It's not a perfect system but it is used by 48 other states. In order for it to work, the state must supply the necessary funds and I understand why that makes people nervous.”

What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “We need targeted and strategic support for growing VT's economy in sectors we have structural advantages in - and that offer good jobs. I think our forest products sector is one such sector not getting enough attention.”
“I did not and do not support the focus on consolidating schools for the sake of consolidation. The goal should be to get property taxes under control and lower the burden of school taxes paid while providing the best education possible.”
“I support the current track we are on for the State (Governor and Legislature) to appropriate the total state-wide educational spending amount. Local budgets (that set how the money appropriated to them will be spent) should remain in the control of school districts that know their students and communities best.”

Peter Schmeeckle

Peter Schmeeckle is a Republican candidate for the Vermont State Senate in the Washington district in the November 3, 2026 general election, residing in Stowe, Vermont, where Peter's background includes work in Musician/Performer/Teacher/Composer - Snowboard Instructor.

What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “We cannot afford to give our limited fiscal resources to people who aren't here legally. It makes no sense. Help Vermonters get back on their feet and welcome new businesses to the state to create more jobs.”
“Yes, they're small steps but I trust what Governor Scott is trying to do.”
“Very poor. Our schools focus more on indoctrination rather than education. We've made steps to limit boys in girls sports, this needs to continue and the culture of gender fluidity needs to come to an end. If the basis of a child's education starts with such a backward ideology we are setting them up for a moronic education.”

Anne Watson

What is one part of Vermont’s economy or cost of living that needs greater attention from elected officials?: “As long as we are largely dependent on fossil fuels for heating and transportation, then we are at the mercy of the fossil fuel roller coaster. EAN reports that "Price increases for gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil added $124 million in estimated costs in Vermont from March through May" - that is, in the first three months alone of the war with Iran.”
“Consolidation has never been my focus, mainly because what I heard from voters in the last election was a need to lower property taxes, and we have yet to see confirmation that consolidation would actually lead toward reduced costs in Vermont.”
“I have a lot of hesitation around this because giving that power directly to the legislature means that we are likely to under-fund education, in the same way that most states under-fund education. I don't want funding education (and doing what's best for our kids) to become a political football.”
