West Virginia State House District 27

Current seat holder: Michael Amos (Republican).

Ric Griffith

Rickey W. “Ric” Griffith is the Democratic candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates in District 27, which covers parts of Wayne County. Griffith was born in Kenova and earned a bachelors degree from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy in 1975. He is a pharmacist and owner of Griffith & Feil Drug in Kenova, a family business with a history dating to the late 19th century. He has worked at the pharmacy since 1976 and continues to work there part-time. Griffith has served two terms as mayor and two terms as president of the Kenova City Council. He previously was elected to the House in 2020 and later represented District 27 from 2022 through 2024. He chose not to seek reelection in 2024 and instead ran for the state Senate’s fifth district, where he lost the general election. Griffith is also known for the annual Pumpkin House display at his Kenova home, which has become a regional Halloween attraction.

“But it was the response that people had [to the Pumpkin House] that grew the desire in me to do more.” (herald-dispatch.com)
“We thought we were doing this for the area children. But [over the years] as it became more complex, the community developed pride in the project.” (herald-dispatch.com)

Gordon Ramey II

Gordon Ramey II is the Republican candidate for the House of Delegates in District 27. He is from the Huntington area and previously served as chief of the Huntington Police Department, as an at-large member of the Cabell County Board of Education, and as a retired major in the West Virginia Army National Guard. Ramey was not on the ballot in the May 2026 Republican primary, which was a two-candidate race between Tyler Bowen and William Caudill; Bowen won, 353 votes to 326. In August 2026 the West Virginia State Election Commission ruled Bowen ineligible to serve because he had moved to Georgia to take a job at Wellstar Children’s Hospital, removing him from the general election ballot. The commission authorized the Wayne County Republican Executive Committee to name a replacement nominee, and the committee selected Ramey, who now appears as the Republican candidate on the Nov. 3 general election ballot against Democrat Ric Griffith.
