Current seat holder: John Jordan (Republican).
Courtney Vandall is a high school teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School, which she also attended. She was born and raised in Raleigh County and attended West Virginia University (WVU). Vandall comes from a coal mining family. Vandall has touted healthcare in the state as a top priority, partly based on her personal disabilities. Similarly, she says her profession as a teacher has allowed her to witness firsthand the issues facing West Virginia’s public schools, which she says was a large part of what pushed her to run for office. Vandall says she is especially critical of the Hope Scholarship program, which she feels has been to the detriment of West Virginia’s public schools.
Originally from Parkersburg, John Jordan is a reverend at Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley. He also serves as the assistant superintendent of the Appalachian Ministry Network and as a general presbyter for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and the chaplain of Raleigh General Hospital.
